KSL 5 will be running our “Christmas with the Cops” story tonight at 6 & 10

After giving the UHP several days to comply, KSL 5 will be running our “Christmas with the Cops” story tonight at 6 & 10. We’re not angry with the officers. As far as we know, they were just doing their jobs, but we don’t think it’s fair when police agencies withhold details of a case when the information has already been deemed by the courts as “a matter of public record”. Hopefully the story will get the attention of state lawmakers and some basic rights for the wrongfully accused will be established into law.

  1. Just be glad they had the discipline and professionalism to keep their fingers straight and off the trigger and be glad they responded as quickly as you say they did. If it had been real we would be kissing their ass oh wait... no one would say anything to them. Try not to be too critical unless you have been in their shoes. We dont always get the clean end of the stick! Semper Fi!

  2. Ryan,
The last thing I would ever want to do is say the officers on scene did not do the right thing. I am very "pro-police". I understand almost as much about their job than any non police officer does. They did what they had to do and I am glad. If it had been an honest 911 call, it would be considered a Christmas miricle. The cops had no way of knowing it was a fake, but after they found out, things could have been handled better. Before the story ran, KSL gave the UHP several days to cooperate with us but the UHP would not. In fact, it was not until the UHP office staff told me to just get a lawyer rather than fill out the GRAMA forms myself, that I even considered using an outside source to get results. The lawyer told me to go to the press. I did. The press called the UHP and told them we simply want answers about what happened. Answers about things that are a matter of public record. The UHP declined. It was not until the press got involved that I heard anything from the UHP. Sad but true. I am glad to at least be getting some cooperation from the UHP now, but it sucks it took the press to get things rolling for me.

  4. Ryan, I brushed myself off on Christmas night. I am SO over what happened! I get it, the cops were just doing ther job. The problem came after the fact. There needs to be better policies for the wrongfully accused. I am not just doing this for me, but for everyone else who has or will have this happen. If this had happened to a memeber of your family, you'd have pulled some strings and found out the details already. We regulars don't have the same connections and we shouldn't have to. The law already says the UHP needs to turn over the requested items but they drag their feet with me and every other person that I've talked to who has tried to get the info.
